Gleaners has always strived to help others who are lacking the financial needs to support themselves and buy food. Here is an overview about us and what we do.
- Pantries
- There are many pantries and distribution centers around Michigan, including Taylor, Livingston, and the main hub, Detroit.
- The pantries have a lot of food and drinks to serve for free in. Typically, Gleaners serves all the people who come, but it is recommended that the people who need the food and drinks do come to their nearest location from their home.
- Along with these pantries, there are also warehouses where the storage is kept and the items are organized.
- Partnerships
- Gleaners has multiple partnerships with grocery stores and other food organizations such as Kroger, Busch's, etc.
- Usually, volunteers help Gleaners collect donations and they try to persuade customers of the grocery store to spread the message and take further actions to help more people get the resources they need.
- Each person would typically get a flyer as well, explaining steps they could take to help.
- Distribution
- Gleaners distributes the food that is collected through the partnerships and pantries among other food drives to around 534 partner soup kitchens, shelters and pantries in 5 southeast Michigan counties.
- The partner agencies of Gleaners then help distribute the food to the hungry and help them.
- This way, volunteers and staff have a very big hand in this operation. We all should pray that this cycle should continue to be successful in order to help more people.
